Redheads Conquer Half Dome

For those of you who are wondering, "what the hay is Half Dome?" Well, it's not the quite manly, slightly balding redhead standing next to Street Teamer May A. It's a gigantic granite boulder that hangs over Yosemite Valley begging to be conquered by redheads like Tim here!  The Street Team became the Climbing Team this week and, with the kind assistance of many redheads like Tim here they made it to the top and back.  Tim is from San Diego and helped the climbers descend the crazy cables that bring one down from the top. Showing the true redheaded spirit, Tim motivated the climbers mentally and physically, keeping them focussed on the goal...mainly not falling down the face! Thanks Tim! You definitely rock!

Red Pride!

Meet "Red Bean!" She ran in to the Redaintdead street team at Google central. Hey guess what...she already knew about Redaintdead before we found her!  Niiiiiice!  Anyway she has a redheaded mom, a redheaded brother and even a redheaded roommate!  Golly Red Bean your fellow redheads are rooting for a redheaded husband!  I love your hair!  Her redheaded brother is named Trafton, which, she quickly pointed out is "not fart" spelled backwards.  Something tells me he doesn't live up to that moniker! OK Red Bean, spread the word that Redaintdead! Any chance of gathering all the redheads who work at Google for a pic???????

Big Little Red Nick

I met Nick at the beach digging in the sand on vacation in San Clemente. Bright red hair, white skin, blue eyes, green shirt. "Wow! That's one technicolor little boy!"

Redheaded Stars of the Week!

Well yesterday I was taking a walk through my neighborhood and across the street I spied a flaming redheaded Mom walking a flaming redheaded child in a stroller and I said, "Dang! I don't have my camera!" So today I didn't make that mistake again, and boy oh boy, take a look at my reward!  I met the cutest redheaded boys ever!  Kyle was helping his grandpa set up a game on the lawn when I said "Hey I like your hair!" Then I told Kyle that we were kindred spirits to which Kyle gave me that quizzical kid look, so I explained, "that means we have shared the same experiences, you know, being redheads." Then of course clever Kyle knew exactly what I was talking about.  We talked about baseball... Kyle loves the Angels and plays third base ( just like my favorite third baseman, my redheaded son Randall).  I was asking Grandpa about Kyle's redheaded genealogy when little brother Kobe ran up... are they the cutest redheaded boys ever?! Grandpa explained that there are no redheads really on Kyle's mom's side of the family, and that Kyle and Kobe's dad is African American!  Wow!  Those recessive redheaded genes back there somewhere were just waiting to come out! The boys are having a sleepover this weekend at Grandma and Grandpa's house with all 9 of their cousins!  Have fun everybody!

Red Alert!

Redheads fight fires!  This is Firefighter Ken who we met at Pinecrest Lake.  That weekend there were more than 800 wildfires burning in Northern California and Firefighter Ken was on patrol along the lakeshore to make sure that the rules of fire safety were being observed by all the vacationers. Actually, he was strolling the walk chewing on an unlit cigar when my husband called out "Red Alert!" which means I should get my camera ready!

Redheads Get Married

My adorable niece Carmel, one of the redaintdead covergirls, got married the other day and these are all the redheaded family members in attendance. I must say that she was quite a beauty that day, with the rays of the setting sun filtering through the redwoods and making her amazing redhair glow. Quite a site to behold, truly. "But uh oh," you are probably thinking, "her husband ain't a redhead." Well not to worry. I carefully observed all his family members and I definitely detect the possibility of red hair in their offspring. Carmel, maybe you ought to start wishing the redheaded wish now like May did...

Big Ben

So I was really beginning to worry about redheaded guys. I know the redaintdead tagline is "Uniting Redheads from all over the World" but it was beginning to feel like the redheads were all girls! So, inspired by the post "Blonde's Redheaded Wish Comes True" from which I learned that if you wish red hard enough it will definitely come true, I started wishing to meet guy redheads. And believe it or not, recently that's all I've been meeting! I spotted Ben eating and chatting with a friend and when I told him about my redheaded website he seemed a little leery at first. "Oh no," I thought, "don't tell me the redheaded guys are going to play hard to get!" But Ben relaxed when his friend said "Cool!" Whew! that was a close one! Turns out Ben is from Canada and played baseball at the University of British Columbia, where he was a catcher. Thanks Ben for being such a good sport!

Redheads Go to Carwashes

Meet Will! We met at the local carwash. He was waiting for his car when I sat down beside him and plopped down a redaintdead business card. "Ah, redheads!" he said. Will is a recent graduate of USC and has a redheaded Dad and brother. Will came by his lovely shade of red by way of a Lebanese-Mexican mom and his redheaded Dad. Wow!

Blonde's Redheaded Wish Comes True!

I know this defies every law of science currently known to mankind, but it's true! This is May, my adorable, talented, very sweet, and formerly very blond niece. "Well, Red Dawn," you are probably thinking, "she just got that color from Clairol, tut, tut." But no, the truth is always more interesting than fiction, and in this case what happened is that ever since she could remember, towheaded May dreamed of being a redhead! And it has taken 25 years, but all that longing, wishing and hoping is finally beginning to pay off! If you look carefully at her hair, you'll see that the ends are blond and as your gaze passes up along her terrific tresses, her hair gets redder and redder! I do believe that in a no time at all May's hair will be as red as mine! So yes, Virginia, there really is a Santa Claus, if you dream red long and hard enough, your redheaded dream will definitely come true!

Redheads Climb Pretend Rocks

Just so you know, my brown headed daughter May reminds me continously of my obligation to provide the Redhead Admiration Society with redheads to admire. Sadly, I often fall short in my duties, offering these four little words of excuse, " I 2 B Z." That's English for "no tengo tiempo." Anyway, enough about me...let's talk redheads! So the street team, which now includes my niece May (she has her own post...) recently went fake rock climbing at Planet Granite in Sunnyvale and they met this nice rockhead, no! redhead named Patty T.who works there. He of course was honored to have his photo snapped by the very attractive redaintdead street team. And then this 2 B Z redhead took her own sweet time in adding him to the site, so long in fact that when the street team returned to climb the fake rocks Patty T (yes I checked the spelling) was crestfallen. "Hey redaintdead street team ," moaned Patty T. "I had a bunch of my rockhead friends here the other day and I got them to huddle around the computer to look at redaintdead and there I wasn't!" OK Patty T... now you got it! And I'm calling your work right now to let you know to get those rockheads huddled once more!

Street Team Strikes Red Gold

The redaintdead street team had an outing at the park...outing at the park noway! To me it looks like a redheaded picnic! Here are Matt, Carmel, DARREN, and Kelsey! When I got a look at this picture and beheld DARREN, I think my own hair turned a little more red! "Saints alive!" I exclaimed, "What I wouldn't give to have my picture taken with DARREN!" Great job, street team!

My Reds!

These are my two redheaded children, Randall and Maryam. Check out Randall's hands...are they enormous or what!

Grandma Marian

This is my grandma Marian, the most stylish redhead of them all! Born in 1910, in Venice, Ca., she was a gifted artist, surfisherwoman, seamstress and homemaker. She and my grandpa Al lived right across the street from us when I was growing up. She was a fiery redhead with intellect and energy to spare. She was the sort of redheaded grandma who would get up in the morning, walk down to the beach, catch some fish, then bring them home to eat, or she'd take us out to her art studio on the back patio and we'd use the fish as a paint brush to make paintings. Marian was devoted completely to her husband Al and her only son Edward (I only ever heard her call him Edward), and finally to her seven grandchildren, but I know she could have successfully managed any company in California! She was also graced with an amazing sense of style, always had the perfect outfit for every occasion, and definitely knew how to pose for the camera! Granny, I love you!

Red Mango Redheads Know What they Want!

So the latest yogurt haunt of my not red twin daughters, Amy and May, is called Red Mango, move over Fraiche! The redaintdead street team visited Red Mango the other day and dropped off the redaintdead calling card. They returned today and were greeted by a very miffed Red Mango redheaded employee named Arielle (yes, like the redheaded little mermaid) who quite rightly demanded, "Hey, I'm a redhead and I work at Red Mango. So why am I not on redaintdead?" Well, I got a 911 call from the street team, and agreed with Arielle immediately. "Get me a photo post haste!" The street team never lets me down...So Arielle here it is! You're the first redhead on redaintdead without me!

My Grannie's hair

So here's a link to a recent article about the popularity of red hair, including celebrities and other wanna be redheads who want the look my great grannie had! You can check out link below. So this is my great grandma Maggie's hair! Wow what a color! She was my Dad's maternal grandmother and obviously the main source of all the redhair in our family! She was born in 1884 and died in Long Beach in 1962. We lived behind her house from my parents' marriage until she died when I was five...my sister Margie is named after her, not a redhead, but has two redheaded daughters with about the same gorgeous shade of red! http://lifestyle.msn.com/beautyandfashion/hair/articlemc.aspx?cp-documentid=7081357&GT1=32002

Class of 2029

Yikes! 2029! That's like a million years from now! This is Chloe...she was at the Pomona College reunion with her mom and dad, both PC grads. Chirp! (that's the Sagehen battle cry!)

Reunion Redhead

I recently attended my 3o year college reunion at Pomona College. Yikes I hardly recognized the place! So many new buildings... new new everything new! But I was proud to learn that Pomona College is one of the very few expensive liberal arts colleges that guarantees that its students will have NO student loans. That's nice. So I was walking around and I stopped a random redhead hoping she was attending the reunion as well, but it turned out she was Andrea, the redhead from Uruguay! I busted out my espanol, and there we were, two redheads espeaking de spaneesh on College Ave.

Redheads work at ChickFila!

So the big news yesterday was that I got signed off on my master's thesis! Yippeee! After 2 1/2 years, including 9 months of torturous thesis writing (126 stinkin' pages) this redhead is now a Master of Education. The Rocket (that's my husband) says I've been his Master for 30 years, but now I have the paperwork to prove it! So my reward to self was to drive thru ChickFila and sit in my car listening to Mozart and savor a chicken sandwich, waffle fries, diet coke and the most delicious vanilla shake on the planet. And that's when I met Jessica! I pulled up to the window and I said, "Wow! I like your hair!" She replied, "I like yours too." So I jumped out of my car and snapped this pic at the drive thru window! "Thanks," said Jessica, "You made my day!" I know exactly what she means :)

Fraiche Reds

So Fraiche is this super popular yogurt hut in Palo Alto. I stopped there with my redaintdead street team. Caitlin (in the middle) was taking a break from piling mocchi balls on yogurt mini mountains when she met me! She goes to high school and seemed a little afraid of me at first. Maybe that's becauase she was talking to a cute boy, not a redhead, and I said "so, see you can't marry him, he's not a redhead." I think she thought I was a little weird and only agreed to have her picture taken with me because two of my street teamers were regulars at the shop. But then her friend JULIA walked up and when she heard about redaintdead she got soooo excited and loudly exclaimed," Wow! I have never been more proud to be a redhead!" well, I thought, that's more like it! Let's hear it for the Fraiche reds!

Meet the redaintdead street team!

Meet the redaintdead NoCal street team! Cortney is another wanna be honorary redhead for shizzle! She is the cutest! She's takes my cards with her everywhere she goes and spreads the redheaded word. She has even snapped a few street pics of redheads that you'll see soon. She also has beautiful, healthy teeth and gums! Keep flossin' Cortney! She's waiting to hear from law schools in the bay...we're keeping our fingers crossed!

Red Nieces

Carmel and Kelsey are my favorite redheaded nieces. I love them to pieces! We celebrated Carmel's birthday with Thai food in Palo Alto and a driveway dance party! Carmel is getting married in June...Michael is not a redhead but....I have noted some redheaded qualities in his mom Lisa so I'm not giving up hope for future El Salvadoran redheads! Kelsey is a redheaded singer songwriter..check out her incredibly beautiful songs at myspace.com/kelsey bulkin

The newest, sweetest, bestest redhead of all!

Yes! He is a redhead!
WOW! My grandson John Rowan Shelley was born today... What a thrill! He will be called Rowan which means red! Hard to describe the awesome thrill it was to see him for the first time! We thank God for his many blessings in our lives...and now we have another one in Rowan! By the way...the origin of his name is Gaelic and means "rugged little redhead!"

"Yeah! I know...his hair is really bright!"

That's what Dillon's mom said when I approached them in line for the Buzz Lightyear ride at Dizzyland! Not such a good pic--in the the sunlight his hair is really bright red..made me want to snip off a lock and take it to my haircutter Lola and " Yes, Lola, I do want to color my hair!" Dillon had just woken up from a nap, so he didn't have much to say...but his mom was really friendly!

Disney Reds!

So we went to Disneyland and I loaded up on my redaint dead biz cards expecting a veritable bonanza of redheads. In the first 5 minutes I saw about 8 redheads, but I was still getting over the shock of having paid $66 to get my red head into the Park and I was busy passing out Disney $20 to my adult daughters, so I lagged and missed some good chances. But then I met ASHLEY from Alpine Utah. She was visiting Disneyland on spring break with her two reds and two brown children. Sadly, the reds were on a ride with dad so I just got a pic with Ashley. And I gotta tell ya...redheads from Utah are super nice! Just look at her!

Red is Preg!

So here are two of my favorite redheads! My daughter in law Amanda is having a boy any day now and my daughter Maryam is having a boy too in July! Hopefully they'll be adding to the redhead population!

Wanna be redhead!

So what is wrong with this picture? A couple months ago I saw my friend Brittany, who obviously is not a redhead. I've actually known Brittany since she was a little bitty baby. So we were catching up with each other's lives and Brittany said I'll give you my buisness card! Brittany is an actor and a singer and her business is called 'Chameleon Comedy.' She does improv, stand-up, sketches, parites and events. So I checked out the pic on her business card...can you see it-- her chameleon alter ego is a redhead! Wow! I said, "Brit! You're really a redhead! You can be on my blog!" So if you need an adorable african american redhead to tell jokes at your next party...she's the redhead for you! http://chameleoncomedy.webs.com/

Grocery shopping with Alexa

Spring break and Alexa was hanging out with her mom at the grocery store. I stopped in on my way home from school, and as I was passing in front of the milk fridges, here comes a mini me down the aisle pushing a cart! Wow! I moseyed up and said, " Hi, you could play me in a movie about my childhood!" Seriously, Alexa is a alot cuter than I was... but we have the same hair and eye color and she wears glasses like I did. She is in the 5th grade and says she has always been the only redhead in her class. Her mom says she always gets more attention from strangers than her brunette sister... She seems like a pretty serious girl, probably really smart. Hey, Alexa do you like to read alot?

Red Baby Fever...Kelly!

So my redheaded daughter Maryam is having a (hopefully) redheaded baby boy in July. So we went to Babies R Us the other day to create the redheaded baby registry. I spotted a redheaded mom, Kelly, in line with her cute little NOT redheaded daughter. I told Maryam, "I'm gonna go make a new redheaded friend!" She kind of rolled her eyes but she thought it was cool when I made friends with Kelly. I snapped our pic and gave Kelly my moocard. Hi Kelly! So as Kelly was leaving the store we were sitting at the baby registry and Kelly got my attention with ,"Bye Dawn, nice meeting you!" That was nice. Redheads are really nice, yes they are! Kelly hopes to be having a redheaded child in the fall!

Switzerland 2008

So Rod and I went to Switzerland to ski again! And we were there for ten whole days and can you believe it???? I only met ONE REDHEAD! It really made me worry that Red might indeed be dead!!!! Perhaps National Geographic only meant Switzerland. Of course, we were skiing so those beautiful locks may have been hiding under hats or hopefully helmets! Anyway.. this adorable redhead was not even Swiss, she is from WALES and I didn't write down her name...so mystery girl from Wales...tell me your name! She was a little reluctant to have her picture taken because of hat hair and everything...but she knew it was for a good cause! Good on ya!

Friday, February 15, 2008

Hey Jenni! We miss you! Jenni is another italian redhead like me! She was our teacher's aide at my school for about six months until she left us to do her student teaching in High School History. She is now using all of her feisty and wily redheaded ways to pound those history facts into her students! Jenni is a famously organized redhead, funny and fun. The only mistake she made was marrying two dark-haired men and thus producing NO redheaded children, but adorable brunettes they are!

John and Dawn - Boulder Colorado

Yes! There were two redheads at the Winter Formal! When I met John he was soooo tall and I couldn't really tell what color his hair was, but my sis Juliet said "hey! He's a redhead too!" And I had to believe her! John teaches middle school math and Spanish with my bro in law Jason. He is an exercise guy and likes to climb boulders in his tails and cumberbund!

Eleanor and Dawn - Boulder Colorado

I met Eleanor at "Winter Formal" Game night at my sister Juliet's house. We crowned a king and queen, we all danced under the disco ball. Eleanor proves that purple looks good on redheads! The Baha'is of Bourlder really do rock!

Swiss Red

No this is not the "flying tomato" aka Shaun White...this is a snowboarder I met in my travels to the Jungrfrau region of Switzerland in February of 2007.

Mandall

My son Randall and his wife Amanda.

My Red Headed Kin

The following display of redness comes from my eldest red-headed son's wedding. My red headed son actually married the very rare type of red-head, the "red-headed Mexican." My gingered male kin and his red headed Latina are expecting their first fruit of their red-headed labor on April 20th. This not only brings great joy to me since I will be a Grandmother, but it will be the ultimate test to see if a red-headed Irish Italian and red-headed Mexican will bear a child of the superior red-headed breed. I have looked into the latest technology of ultra-sound machines and although technology has made leaps and bounds...they are yet to create an ultrasound that can detect red headed babies. Until ultrasound technology gets their bum in gear, we will just have to wait until April 20th to see if we will blessed with a red-headed child.

Getting back on track, this picture is of my "strawberry blonde" daughter and my two nieces.
Long live the red heads!
